The plot of the game is to take down the evil Portal Master Kaos once again. Of all that has been released, the game is set to be in the setting of the Cloudbreak Islands, and only Flynn has been reported to make a return. It is likely but unknown if Cali will be returning.
Each Skylander, when put on the Portal of Power, will say a catchphrase of theirs.
The Skylanders are usually very well detailed, and each has a different personality and backstory, as well as their own Element, and attacks.
There are 56 Skylanders coming out with Skylanders: SWAP Force, 16 new SWAP Force characters, 16 new Skylanders characters, 8 LightCore Skylanders characters, and 16 new versions of fan-favorite Skylanders from the previous games. Each "Series 3" character will have a new Wow-Pow upgrade. Sprocket, Trigger Happy, Chop Chop, Eruptor, and Stealth Elf have been announced as confirmed Series 3 figures.
The levels in SWAP Force are expected to be little to no different than its successors, except for a different storyline and now characters will have the ability to jump (new and old). So far, not much has been released about the gameplay or plot of the game.
 Heroic Challenges
Usually, it is Cali, a lynx-like female creature who allows the Skylander to play Heroic Challenges. However, it is unknown whether Cali will be making a reappearance with SWAP Force, although there is no need to cut her out of the storyline, and it is unlikely that she has been snipped out.
Heroic Challenges make Skylanders' statistics go up, so it would not make sense for Cali to be cut out of the story. However, a new character could also be introduced who gives Heroic Challenges.
 Regular Figures
It is unknown what prices these figures will be at, but here are estimated prices that have been found on numerous websites:
- Note: All prices are in American money value.
- LightCores: $11
- Ordinary: $10
- SWAP Force characters: $16
- Rares/Store Exclusives: $12-$18
 Chase Figures
Several Skylanders, to promote them, were given special chase figures. These figures were different from their average counterpart, either having different statistics in game, a different appearance, or were a Toy Fair exclusive.
Below is a list of all known chase figures:
- Volcanic Eruptor (3DS Starter Pack exclusive)
 In-Game Differences
In both previous games, Legendary figures and figures that appeared different in-game were available. Volcanic Eruptor has a name that seems to match the four from Skylanders: Giants of which all appeared different in-game (These being Polar Whirlwind, Scarlet Ninjini, Punch Pop Fizz, and Molten Hot Dog).
Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure has two modes of multiplayer, a competitive mode for battling Skylanders against each other and cooperative multiplayer, such as completing chapters together.
Skylanders: Giants had the same sort of multiplayer system.
It is likely that Skylanders: Swap Force will feature the same things.
The 3DS version of the game is different than the consoles’ version.
 Xbox 360
Console version of the game. Same as Wii, Wii-U, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
It has the same storyline as all the others except the 3DS. It is controlled by physically moving around the Wii remote, and is considered often uncomfortable due to this.
 PlayStation 3
The PlayStation 3 version is the same as the rest except the 3DS. Its similarity to the Xbox console made it the second best-selling Starter Pack.
The game is also set to be released for the Nintendo Wii-U.
 PlayStation 4
Starter Pack pre-orders are set for Xbox One and PlayStation 4. They most likely feature the same storyline as other console versions.
 Xbox One
Starter Pack pre-orders are set for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. They most likely feature the same storyline as the other console versions.
The PC version is actually not the actual game itself, but is a spin-off cooperative play known as ‘’Spyro’s Universe’’. This is likely to be continued for SWAP Force.
